UW Monthly Ethics Board Review — A Poetry Reading XX
[Student at Mic:] ‘Concrete Curriculum:
[sic] Urb Surfer, truant angels on
Angles & guardrails overcoming gravity.
Fallen, then falling again.
Arms open wide in
Flights down flights
Hooded anonymity -
Landing, genuflecting, skinny.
Spring in reverse for impact -
Hands bloodied in self determination
Beset, sicced upon by rentacops,
Even on Sundays.’
[New Ethics Professor Lead:] ‘Thank you but this is not an open mic.
It’s for university ethics reviews.’
[Approaching the mic, the Radical Student:] ‘I’m a new transfer
I study language, its effects, i.e. Proto Indo European -
And Shakespeare needs to be performed for students
Not insisted it be read, rote.’
[His hand over the mic as council discussion ensues at the long table.]
[Professor New:] ‘That would place him in the Drama Department.’
